If you want to make money with your website, you really only need to focus on 3 things.  And I call them the 3 pillars because you need all 3 pieces in place, or else you’ll fail.

 

 

Pillar #1. Traffic

You need traffic to generate leads and customers.  Traffic is where most people put their time and energy.

You can get traffic from a variety of sources, including search engine optimization (SEO), pay per click (PPC) advertising, email marketing, joint ventures and affiliates, social media, and various other forms of paid and non-paid channels.

Always diversify. Never put all of your eggs in 1 traffic basket.

 

Pillar #2. Conversion

Traffic alone will not make you any money.  You need traffic PLUS conversion.

Conversion means getting people to take action on your website – picking up the phone and calling you, filling out a contact form on your website, buying your product, etc.

What most people don’t realize is that conversion is the bigger leverage point. It’s more important than traffic, and here’s why: If you double your conversion rate, you can double your leads and sales without increasing your traffic.

Conversion is where the REAL money is made.

Decide what you want people to do when they land on your website. Then, make it really obvious what you want them to do, and give them a good reason to do it.

 

Pillar #3. Tracking

Tracking is the third pillar of profitable online marketing.

Tracking is the least sexy pillar, but it’s absolutely critical.

The good news is that you can track pretty much everything when it comes to online marketing. There’s no excuse to not track… unless for some reason you don’t want to make money.

I’m constantly surprised when I meet business owners who aren’t tracking their marketing… and that means they’re throwing money away. Stop throwing your money away!

 

Traffic + Conversion + Tracking = Profit

Lots of people over-complicate online marketing… but as you can see, it’s not very complicated.

You just need 3 things to make money — and you really need all 3.
