Every month, we feature a member of our team here at Main Street ROI. This month, we’re featuring our lead Digital Marketing Advisor, Morgan Gertler.

Meet Morgan Gertler

Flying Pigeon

How did you get into marketing?

I went to school for English and Writing, and my first full-time job out of college was at a small publishing company assisting the Copy Editors and helping the CEO manage all the different product lines. Then, in 2008, the economy took a hit and my role was cut down to part time.

It was around that same time I met the owner of a small video marketing company, and he needed help managing his clients. I started working for him part-time, and after about 1 year, I had decided to work with him full-time and completely immersed myself in the business of digital marketing. A few years later, I received an offer to work at a large digital marketing company in New York City, and I was there for 4 years before joining Main Street ROI.

What do you like most about working with small business clients?

My first job in high school was for a small company that would hire and send lifeguards to different pools in parts of New York and New Jersey. I worked for them for several years and each year the pools I lifeguarded at became bigger, fancier and paid better. The growth of their business impacted me directly, and in a very tangible way.

The next few jobs I held, both part time in high school and college, and then full time post college, were with small businesses.

Working as a Marketing Advisor at Main Street ROI with small business clients feels like the most natural thing I could do. I truly love building relationships with my clients and being able to provide a service that makes a difference in their businesses.

My father is a small business owner as well, so I’ve seen first hand the ups and downs that come with it, and I think that makes me even more emotionally attached to the work I do for our clients.

What do you like most about working at Main Street ROI?

When you respect and admire the people you work for, it’s easy to love your job. Phil and Pete create a great environment of support and growth that I haven’t experienced at many other companies. They hire people who are great at what they do, so I’m surrounded by experts in digital marketing and I get to call these people my coworkers and friends. Phil and Pete are always looking for feedback on how we can improve both for our clients and for ourselves internally. I love that I can tell them my ideas and thoughts, and know that they appreciate the feedback and are open to having a conversation.

It’s also so awesome that we offer marketing services for businesses with any budget. In the past, I worked for companies that had limits on the types of clients they could take on that was based on the client’s budget. At Main Street ROI, we offer training, consulting and online webinars for businesses who aren’t ready to work with us on an ongoing basis yet. When I talk to businesses who are considering working with us, I know that I’ll have a solution to offer them regardless of their budgets.

What do you like to do outside of the office?

I like to think that I’m a well rounded person, but it when it comes to my hobbies outside of work I’m pretty limited. I live and breathe yoga, and I am completely obsessed with my dog. (My husband is pretty great too, I shouldn’t leave him out.)

I practice yoga regularly and do my best to live my practice off the mat as well. After seeing how much of an impact yoga had on my personal and professional life, I went through a 9 month training program and started teaching in 2014. I love being able to teach my students not only the physical poses of yoga, but also breathing and meditation.

Seeing the lightbulb go off when they finally have that “ah ha’ moment is extremely rewarding. It’s also helped me to cultivate a more patient and understanding outlook, which has assisted me in all parts of my life.  I even practiced AcroYoga (short for acrobatic yoga) on my wedding day. My mom wasn’t too thrilled about seeing me fly around in my clean, white dress though :)

My other love is my dog, Jagger. My husband and I adopted him 4 years ago, and the experience completely opened my eyes to the reality of shelter life for homeless animals. He’s had a lot of health problems in the last year, but he continues to amaze us with his constant love of life. We love taking him hiking up in Ramapo, New Jersey, as it allows us all to enjoy the outdoors and exercise at the same time.

Jagger has inspired me to try to live more in the present moment, and not worry so much about the future. (Something we probably all need to work on!)

What online trend are you most excited about for businesses?

I love that more and more businesses are becoming savvy on Facebook and Instagram. For many small businesses these outlets are great ways to find potential clients without “hard selling” them.  Social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram will continue to modify their advertising abilities so that they are more and more attractive to businesses.

And with mobile being so popular (and necessary), social media advertising will continue to grow at its current rapid pace. So many people use their phones to surf social media sites, and they want to be able to easily navigate to another site if needed. So, if you are advertising on social media, and you have a mobile responsive site, it makes for a really smooth and easy experience for your prospect. I anticipate we will begin to see more and more of a link between social and mobile, as I believe the two speak to each other really well.
